Search teams probed the chilly water of a lake in the Adirondacks on Saturday for two college students missing after two canoes and a power boat capsized.

The missing students from Paul Smith's College were among a group thrown into Lower St. Regis Lake just off shore from campus late Friday on the last day of classes before exams, college spokesman Kenneth Aaron said.

Three other students got out of the water safely.

A state police helicopter, divers and rescuers from local fire departments were on the scene Saturday.

Aaron said the capsizings were being investigated by state police. The powerboat was not near the canoes when it overturned, he said.

The two missing students were in one of the canoes.

"Everyone at Paul Smith's is deeply concerned about these students," college president John Mills said in a statement.

One of the missing students was identified as Sean Cornell, 20, of Manchester Center, Vt. The identity of the other won't be released until family can be notified, Aaron said.

Paul Smiths is 124 miles north of Albany.
