New York, NY – Former runner-up Vera Zvonareva will miss the upcoming U.S. Open due to a viral illness.
The 27-year-old 16th-ranked Russian, who opened 2012 at No. 7 in the world, lost to Kim Clijsters in the 2010 U.S. Open final. The former world No. 2 star was also the Wimbledon runner-up two years ago.
The 2012 U.S. Open will commence Monday in Flushing Meadows.
