Linz, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Sixth seed Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova and eighth seed Caroline Garcia both suffered opening-round upsets Monday at the Generali Ladies Linz tennis event.
New Zealand's Marina Erakovic bounced the rising 20-year-old Frenchwoman Garcia in 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 fashion at TipsArena Linz. Later, 24-year-old Stefanie Voegele topped Strycova 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
Also, Slovak Anna Schmiedlova dismissed German Annika Beck 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
The top seeds in Linz are Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard, former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic and Australian Open runner-up and 2011 Linz finalist Dominika Cibulkova. The 2008 and 2010 Linz champion Ivanovic was last year's runner-up to German Angelique Kerber, who is not defending her title this year.
Ivanovic will play her first-round match against France's Pauline Parmentier on Tuesday.
The 2014 Linz titlist will earn $43,000.
