Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees announced on Tuesday that outfielder Carlos Beltran underwent surgery to remove loose pieces and a bone spur from his right elbow.

Beltran is expected to begin throwing and hitting in six weeks and should gain clearance to play in 12 weeks.

The 37-year-old played in just three games after Sept. 9 because of the issue. He concluded his first season with the Yankees batting a disappointing .233 with 15 homers and 49 RBI over 109 games.
