New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox due to a sore left wrist.

Nick Swisher was inserted at first base and was due to bat second instead of Teixeira, who missed contests on July 31 and Aug. 1 due to the injury.

The Yankees have inserted Robinson Cano into the lineup. The second baseman was limited to pinch-hitting duties in Thursday's loss against Texas because of a stiff neck.

Teixeira leads the Yankees with 78 runs batted in and is hitting .257 with 23 homers in 112 games. Cano has a .311 average with 25 homers and 68 RBI in 117 contests.
