Kansas City, MO – The New York Yankees have placed third baseman Eric Chavez on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion.
The move came Thursday, one day after Chavez left a game against Baltimore in the middle of an at-bat in the fifth inning.
Chavez had hit the ground hard diving for J.J. Hardy's double down the line leading off the top of the inning and was seen grasping the left side of his jaw in the dugout.
The Yankees called up infielder Jayson Nix from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and moved pitcher Joba Chamberlain to the 60-day DL. Chamberlain hasn't played this season because of a dislocated right ankle.
New York was starting a four-game series in Kansas City on Thursday.
