Wolfsburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Wolfsburg announced on Saturday that the club has completed the capture of Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old joins Wolfsburg on a five-and-a-half-year contract for what is believed to be a fee of around $26 million, although that figure hasn't been confirmed by either club.
De Bruyne made a positive impression in the Bundesliga last season while on loan from Chelsea at Werder Bremen, netting 10 goals with nine assists in 33 matches.
But after returning to Chelsea this past summer, De Bruyne fell out of favor with new manager Jose Mourinho, leading him to explore a return to Germany in an effort to get playing time before this summer's World Cup.
The Belgium international is believed to have been courted by Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke and Monchengladbach, but has opted for Wolfsburg, which currently resides in fifth place in the Bundesliga and resumes the second half of its season next Saturday at home against Hannover.
