Wells drive in game-winner as M's edge Rangers

Casper Wells knocked in the eventual winning 3 win over the Texas Rangers in the finale of a three-game series.

Mike Carp cracked a two-run home run and Franklin Gutierrez added a pair of hits for the Mariners, who snapped a three-game skid.

Jason Vargas (7-10) gave up three runs on six hits while walking four and fanning three over seven innings to snap a six-game winless stretch. Brandon League worked around a leadoff base hit in the ninth to nail down his 27th save of the season.

Ian Kinsler smacked a two-run homer and Josh Hamilton also went deep for the Rangers, who had their three-game winning streak ended. They remained 1 1/2 games ahead of the Angels for first place in the AL West.

Koji Uehara (1-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up a run on three hits in one inning of work.
