Jered Weaver hit the DL in late June with hip inflammation, but he's nearing a return to the Los Angeles Angels' rotation.

On Tuesday, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reported on Twitter that Weaver is scheduled for a rehab outing with Single-A Inland Empire on Thursday. If all goes well, it's presumable that it would be the 'last step' in Weaver's progress before rejoining the club:

So far in 2015, Weaver is 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA in just over 96 innings of work, as a drop in velocity and overall downtick in effectiveness has plagued him this season.

This latest update comes a week or so after Weaver was said to not require a rehab stint, so the Angels are apparently proceeding without a sense of urgency...which makes sense considering the current state of their rotation. Once Weaver is able to return, the Halos will have to make some decisions regarding personnel, as Andrew Heaney has pitched very well in his past few outings.
