The Angels and ace Jered Weaver have agreed to year extension that will keep the 28-year-old righty under contract through 2016.

The deal, worth a reported $85 million by the Los Angeles Times, was announced at a press conference open to the public at Angel Stadium.

Weaver is in the midst of a career season, as he currently leads the American League in earned-run average (2.10), is tied for second in walks/hits per inning pitched and ranks third in wins (14) and batting average against (.207). He has also thrown four complete games and two shutouts.

The two-time All-Star has posted double-digit wins each season since breaking in with the Angels in 2006. He owns a 78-45 career record with a 3.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.

The Angels selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2004 draft
