RENO, Nev. – Tyrone Wallace scored 29 points to carry Cal to a hard-fought 63-56 win over Nevada on Sunday.
Both teams struggled offensively, but Wallace had no such difficulties. The sophomore point guard made 11-of-20 shots and accounted for nearly half of Cal's points. His dunk with 11.3 seconds remaining capped a 17-6 run to end the game.
The Bears (7-1) shot just 39.3 percent from the field, including 3-of-12 from 3-point range, but got some key defensive stops late. David Kravish was the only other Cal player in double figures, scoring 11 points and adding six rebounds.
Nevada (2-6), which was seeking its first win over a Pac-12 team in two years, lost its sixth-straight game after opening the season 2-0. Center A.J. West led Nevada with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks. The Wolf Pack shot just 33.3 percent from the field, including 25.9 percent after intermission.
