Eden Prairie, MN – Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian term contract extension.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Peterson has been a Pro Bowl selection in each of his four NFL seasons and in 2007 earned the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year honor. He is coming off a 2010 campaign that included 1,298 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
"Adrian's performances on the field have given fans so much excitement since he first joined us as a rookie," said Vikings owner Zygi Wilf in a statement. "His talent and determination are remarkable and we are proud to have him be a part of the family for years to come."
The Vikings selected Peterson in the first round of the 2007 draft after the Texas native had a stellar collegiate career at Oklahoma. He rushed for 1,341 yards with 12 touchdowns in his rookie year, which included an NFL single-game record 296-yard performance against San Diego.
Peterson followed up his sterling first year with 1,760 yards and 10 scores in 2008, then ran for 1,383 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2009. He is already the second-leading rusher in Vikings history, behind only Robert Smith, and is tied for the club's all-time record with 52 rushing touchdowns.
"Adrian is, to me, the best running back in pro football and we're happy to have him as a part of the organization for the long term," stated Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier. "He's a fan favorite and a great teammate. Adrian's a guy we lean on when he's on the field with the ball in his hand and as a leader in the locker room."
The Vikings will open the 2011 season on Sunday in San Diego.
