Victor Cruz Signs One-Year Deal, Will Be New York Giants Player In 2013

Salsa-dancing sensation Victor Cruz will be wearing blue again next season. But it's unclear what color he'll be wearing a year later.

The New York Giants wide receiver, who is 26, has signed a first-round restricted free-agent tender worth $2.879 million, ESPN is reporting.

"I'm going to sign my tender today and will continue talks for a long-term deal before camp starts," Cruz told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The news comes after an offseason of long-term extension negotiations.

According to ESPN, the G-men had an option to reduce Cruz's tender to just over $630,000 on Monday although would have made any hope for an extension smaller.

Cruz has had 168 catches for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns in the past two seasons.

The signing gives Cruz a nice paycheck season while giving both sides an opportunity to work on something that benefits both sides.

So expect Cruz in training camp next month catching passes from Eli Manning, at least for 2013.

In April, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Cruz, who recently signed to CAA, will move over and work with Roc Nation.

A source told the New York Daily News that the Giants wide receiver believe CAA’s Tom Condon will continue to represent Cruz in talks with the team regardless of any deal he signs with Jay-Z to handle his other business activities.

Several sources told the Daily News in April that Cruz was asking for $10 million to $11 million a year in salary.

Cruz, who is from Paterson, N.J., became extremely popular because of his salsa dances after each touchdown.
