Chester, PA – The Philadelphia Union selected Nizar Khalfan in the Major League Soccer Waiver Draft after Vancouver Whitecaps FC waived the midfielder.
Khalfan, a native of Tanzania, had a goal and four assists for the expansion Whitecaps in 2011, his first season in MLS. He appeared in 22 MLS matches last season.
The Union also waived goalie Thorne Holder and defender Juan Diego Gonzalez.
