Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - UCLA head men's basketball coach Steve Alford has received a one-year contract extension through the 2020-21 season.

Athletic director Dan Guerrero made the announcement on Friday.

Alford led the Bruins to a 28-9 record, the Pac-12 Tournament title and the program's first Sweet 16 appearance since 2008. Alford tied a school record set by Gene Bartow in 1975-76 for the most wins by any head coach in his first season.

The 49-year-old agreed to lengthy contract extension to remain at New Mexico shortly before being hired by UCLA to replace Ben Howland in March 2013.

UCLA opens its season at home against Montana State on Nov. 14.
