UCLA guard has concussion, gets staples in head

A freshman UCLA guard suffered a concussion and required three staples to close a cut on his forehead after colliding with a teammate in practice.

Norman Powell, a 6-foot-3 guard from San Diego, was driving the lane when he was struck by an accidental elbow, the school said in a release Thursday.

Powell was being monitored and is listed as day-to-day for the Bruins, who are still more than a month from beginning the 2011-12 season.
