The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Denard Span on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 28 on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Span suffered a sternoclavicular joint strain trying to make a sliding catch on Aug. 12. Span missed 10 games with the injury before returning Aug. 23, but was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday and will finally head to the DL.

Span has hit .286 this season with three home runs, 35 RBI and 14 stolen bases. He owns a .349 on-base percentage.

Minnesota expects to make a corresponding move on Friday.
