Joey Coulter ran the only lap faster than 170 miles per hour and led Friday’s opening practice for Saturday’s SFP 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Coulter’s Chevrolet was clocked at 170.379 mph as Chevys had five of the top six speeds.

Following Coulter were Tim George Jr., James Buescher, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Parker Kligerman.

Series point leader Timothy Peters was 18th in the one-hour session.

The top five drivers in the series point standings are separated by only 10 points three races into the season.

A second session of Truck practice is scheduled at 3 p.m. (ET) Friday. It will be televised by SPEED as part of the network’s Fast Friday programming.

Qualifying for Saturday’s race is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. That session – and the race – will be covered by SPEED.
