Jackson, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - David Toms and John Rollins both carded 6- under 66s on Friday and they moved into a share of the lead with the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship suspended due to darkness.
Toms and Rollins are tied at 10-under-par 134. Toms owns 13 PGA Tour wins, including the 2001 PGA Championship, and Rollins is a three-time tour winner.
Nick Taylor shot 3-under 69 at the Country Club of Jackson and he stands alone in third place at minus-8. Tom Gillis (68) and McGladrey Classic winner Robert Streb (70) share fourth place at 7-under-par 137.
Vaughn Taylor fired a 6-under 66 and he jumped into a tie for sixth place at 6-under-par 138. He was joined there by Boo Weekley (68), Lucas Glover (67), William McGirt (70) and Shawn Stefani (68). Oscar Fraustro and Fabian Gomez are also minus-6, but have one and three holes to complete respectively.
First-round leader Sebastian Cappelen was 3-over par through 16 holes and had tumbled into a tie for 21st at 4-under par.
The first round was completed earlier Friday after being suspended due to darkness on Thursday. Play was again suspended by darkness on Friday. The second round will resume Saturday at 8:40 a.m. ET, while the third round will start at approximately 9:50 a.m.
Toms played the back nine first on Friday and he got going with an 8-foot birdie putt at the 12th. He followed with a 9-footer for birdie at 13 before running off eight consecutive pars from the 14th.
The former PGA Champion notched back-to-back birdies at four and five, both from outside 20 feet.
Toms moved to minus-9 with a 23-foot birdie effort at No. 7. He closed with a short birdie putt at the ninth to finish a bogey-free round.
"I'm keeping the ball in play off the tee, which is a big deal, obviously, on a course like this. I've been real patient with my iron shots," Toms said. "When I have a good number and feel good about the club and where the pin is, I'm pretty aggressive, but when I'm in between clubs or the pin is in a spot where I don't feel good, then I'm backing off and hitting to the middle of the green and just taking my 2-putt and getting out."
Rollins got off to a fast start with birdies on the first three holes. An 11- foot birdie effort at five moved Rollins to 8-under.
The 39-year-old parred three in a row before draining an 18-footer for birdie at the ninth.
Rollins gave that shot right back as he failed to get up and down for par after missing the 10th green with his tee shot. He atoned for that mistake with an up-and-down birdie at the par-5 11th.
After a pair of pars, Rollins birdied the 14th from 12 feet out and he moved into the lead at 11-under thanks to a 13-foot birdie putt at 15. Rollins missed the green at 17 with his approach shot and that led to another bogey. He parred the last to share the lead with Toms.
"It's been a good two days. I've swung well ... and putted well. Those are two key ingredients to playing good golf," said Rollins. "It's been two fun days and hopefully we can have two more."
NOTES: Toms is the only player without a bogey through 36 holes ... Toms has gone on to win four of the previous 15 times he was the 36-hole leader on the PGA Tour ... Rollins' only other second-round lead was at the 2009 Barracuda Championship, which he went on to win ... The 36-hole cut will likely fall at 1-under par with Trevor Immelman, Lee Janzen, Chad Campbell, Nick Watney and David Duval among those that will miss the cut.
