Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Toluca moved into second place in Liga MX after a 2-0 win at Atlas thanks to second-half goals from Antonio Rios and Isaac Brizuela.
Following a scoreless first half, Rios fired Toluca in front in the 48th minute when he took a pass from Brizuela and hammered a shot into the top corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Atlas nearly equalized in the 90th minute when a free kick from Enrique Esqueda struck the crossbar, only for Brizuela to score in stoppage time to seal the win for Toluca as he chipped goalkeeper Edgar Castillo after the netminder came off his line.
The win moves Toluca one point clear of Atlas and into second place in Liga MX, while leaders America moved four points above the rest of the league with a 2-0 win over Monterrey.
Pablo Aguilar found the net after 49 minutes to put America in front, while Oribe Peralta scored 10 minutes from time to lock up a ninth win in 13 matches for America.
Monterrey's defeat allowed Tigres to move into the top four following a 1-0 win over Cruz Azul as Edgar Lugo scored the lone goal 13 minutes into the match.
Leon continued its revival by downing Guadalajara, 2-1, as Carlos Pena struck the winning goal on the hour mark.
After losing eight of its first 11 games to start the campaign, Leon has rebounded to move to within touching distance of a place in the top eight, while Jaguares is seventh after a 2-0 win against Santos thanks to goals from Luis Rodriguez and Isaac Aroero in the final 10 minutes.
Puebla and Leones Negros played out a 1-1 draw, Veracruz edged Morelia, 1-0, behind a first-half goal from Daniel Villalva, Dario Benedetto scored in stoppage time to lift Tijuana to a 2-1 win over Queretaro, and UNAM finished in a 1-1 draw with Pachuca as the two sides traded goals 10 minutes apart in the second half.
