Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Al Alburquerque was hit in the head while the Orioles were taking batting practice before Friday's game.

Alburquerque suffered a concussion and will remain in a local hospital overnight for observation. Doctors reported finding some internal bleeding.

While playing catch in left field, Alburquerque took a ball to the head off the bat of Baltimore's Robert Andino.

Alburquerque was eventually carted off the field and taken to University of Maryland Medical Center.

The Tigers placed him on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled pitcher Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo.

Alburquerque, who is a rookie, is 5-1 with a 2.19 ERA in 34 games this season.
