Philadelphia, PA – LPGA TOUR - WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN, Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, United Kingdom - The final major of the golf season comes from Hoylake.
After a marathon sudden-death playoff that ended on Monday at the Kingsmill Championship, Jiyai Shin has to go into the major as one of the pre-tournament favorites.
On the ninth extra hole, and first of Monday, Shin 2-putted for par to defeat Paula Creamer. Shin got her ninth career LPGA Tour title and first in two years.
Shin and Creamer will get to Royal Liverpool later than most of the field, but they are the hottest players. Shin won the title in 2008.
Among the coldest, is the defending champion.
Last year, Yani Tseng successfully defended her title with a 4-stroke victory over Brittany Lang at Carnoustie when the championship was played at the end of July.
Tseng, then 22, collected her fifth major championship and became the youngest player in history, male or female, to win that many major titles. When she captured her fourth major earlier in 2011 at the LPGA Championship, she became the youngest female golfer to accomplish the feat.
After a great start to the 2012 campaign, highlighted by three wins and all top-10 finishes in her first eight starts, Tseng has struggled this summer.
She hasn't cracked the top 10 since the Sybase Match Play Championship in mid- May.
Sun Young Yoo won this year's Kraft Nabisco Championship, Shanshan Feng captured the LPGA Championship and Na Yeon Choi took the title at the U.S. Women's Open.
Lydia Ko, the 15-year-old amateur who won this year's U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, became the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history last month when she won the Canadian Women's Open. She is in the field as well.
ESPN will broadcast the action all four days.
Next week is the Navistar LPGA Classic, which was won last year by Lexi Thompson. When she won a year ago at the age of 16, she was the youngest winner in tour history.
EUROPEAN TOUR
ITALIAN OPEN, Royal Park I Roveri, Turin, Italy - When it comes to the Italian Open, there is only one last name in golf to watch out for - Molinari.
For Francesco Molinari, who won his national championship in 2006, this will represent his final competitive action until the Ryder Cup in a couple of weeks.
Francesco is fourth in the Race to Dubai thanks to a win earlier this season at the Open de Espana. He has posted four top 10s in his last seven starts, including runner-up finishes at the Open de France and Scottish Open.
For older brother Edoardo, this week marks a return. He missed the last three months with a wrist injury. He hasn't played since the Nordea Masters in June.
Perhaps the two other biggest names in Italian golf, Matteo Manassero and Costantino Rocca, are both in the field.
Last year, the tournament was held in June and Robert Rock earned his first European Tour title in 209 starts. He shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to win by a stroke over Thorbjorn Olesen, who had a final-round 62, and Gary Boyd.
Rock parlayed his success in Turin last year into a big win this year. He held on to win this season's Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship with Rory McIlroy a shot back and Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell and Thomas Bjorn two behind.
Francesco Molinari will be joined by Ryder Cup teammates Martin Kaymer and Nicolas Colsaerts this week.
Golf Channel will show all four rounds.
The European Tour is off next week, then, it's the 39th Ryder Cup Matches. Europe will defend the Cup at Medinah after it won the Cup back in a Monday finish two years ago at Celtic Manor.
CHAMPIONS TOUR
PACIFIC LINKS HAWAI'I CHAMPIONSHIP, Kapolei Golf Course, Kapolei, Hawaii - The Champions Tour will make its second trip to Hawaii this year for the debut of this event.
Dan Forsman won the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.
The field this week is strong, headlined by a less than part-time Champions Tour star. Greg Norman is scheduled to play in only his third event this season on the elder circuit.
Norman tied for 53rd at the Senior Players Championship and missed the cut at The Senior Open Championship. The Shark played twice this year on the PGA Tour with a WD and a missed cut.
Tom Lehman leads the season-long Charles Schwab Cup race and he's in the field. So is leading money winner Michael Allen.
Golf Channel has the action for all three rounds.
Next up for the Champions Tour, in three weeks, is the SAS Championship. Kenny Perry finally earned his first win on tour, but did so with a heavy heart. His sister Kay passed away Saturday night after a long battle with breast cancer.
WEB.COM TOUR
BOISE OPEN, Hillcrest Country Club, Boise, Idaho - With six events remaining before the Web.com Tour Championship, each week is crucial.
The top 25 on the money list after the season-ender get PGA Tour cards for next year. The top two on that list, Casey Wittenberg and Luke List, are both in the field.
The Boise Open is one of the four original tournaments on the Web.com Tour schedule and Hillcrest Country Club has hosted the event since its inception in 1990.
Jason Kokrak earned his first tour title last year with a 2-shot victory. Kokrak will be on hand this week to try and become the first player in Web.com Tour history to successfully defend a title.

Next week is the WNB Golf Classic, which was won last year by Danny Lee.
