Travelle Jones scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half to lead Texas Southern to a 70-67 win over Jackson State on Saturday night.

Texas Southern (12-10, 10-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed 37-28 at halftime, and by as many as 16, 53-37, with 13:06 left to play.

Texas Southern then outscored Jackson State 23-8 to pull within 61-60 on Kevin Galloway's free throws with 2:28 remaining. Grant Maxey answered with a layup for Jackson State, but Jones was too much from then on.

He scored five straight points to put Texas Southern ahead for good at 65-63 with 1:14 left, and scored six more the rest of the way.

Lawrence Johnson-Danner scored 15 points, Justin Ray had 14 and Gallaway finished with 10 for Texas Southern.

Maxey led Jackson State (13-11, 9-3) with 18 points. Tyrone Hanson added 16 and Jenirro Bush had 15.
