The Texas girls' basketball coach who holds the national record for career victories has retired after 52 years.

Granbury High School coach Leta Andrews, who ran up 1,416 wins, the most in girls' or boys' basketball, retired two weeks ago after her team lost in the state playoffs.

Andrews took over the mantle of "winningest coach" in 2010. She averaged more than 27 wins every season.

Andrews said her love for the game and passion for coaching kept her going, but at 76 she's finally decided to give up the long bus rides to stay home on the family ranch about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
