Tar Heels' Renner ready to thrive as a senior in 2nd year leading high-scoring offense
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina starting quarterback Bryn Renner is ready for a big second year in coach Larry Fedora's no-huddle spread offense.
Renner said during Saturday's preseason media day that he's "much more comfortable" returning to the offense. He first became UNC's starter under an interim coach in 2011, then had to learn a new offense once the school hired Fedora for 2012.
Fedora said Renner better understands how to manage the offense as a senior.
With Renner running the offense as on-the-job training last year, the Tar Heels set school records for scoring and total offense. The team averaged nearly 41 points per game.
Renner threw for 3,356 yards and 28 touchdowns last year. He also cut his interception total from 13 as a sophomore to seven as a junior.
