Rival taunts have hit a new low as the college football season begins. A new Ohio State t-shirt mocking Penn State and the Jerry Sandusky scandal is causing controversy, Fox19 reports.

The t-shirt reads, "I'd rather shower at Penn State than cheer for the Wolverines."

The 'shower at Penn State' line refers to testimony from Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary that Sandusky raped a boy while in the shower at the school's football building.

Gayle Saunders, OSU assistant vice president of media relations, told USA Today that the t-shirt is not sanctioned by Ohio State and university officials have no idea where it originated.

"We recently became aware that this T-shirt design is circulating on social media... It is unacceptable and appalling that someone would make light of a tragedy in this manner.

"The phrase has also been printed on shirts for Iowa and LSU, except Iowa's reads "...than cheer for the Huskers" and LSU's says "...then (sic) support Alabama."

Former OSU basketball star Jared Sullinger tweeted, "For y'all to come out with shirts about PSU is giving Ohio state a bad name. We respect our opponents and we respect the victims."

Penn State football season opens this weekend.
