Former Calgary Flames head coach Brent Sutter will have a job for at least another couple of weeks, as he was picked to guide Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championship.

The Flames and Sutter mutually parted ways on Thursday after three years. He led Calgary to a record of 118-90-38, but the squad never reached the playoffs.

Sutter will be assisted by Carolina head coach Kirk Muller and Tampa Bay's Guy Boucher at next month's World Championship, hosted jointly by Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

"This is a coaching staff that has a great deal of professional and international experience," said Team Canada general manager Kevin Lowe. "Brent, Guy and Kirk are all looking forward to working with the 17 players we have named and leading this group to success in Helsinki."

Canada will play its opener on May 4 against Slovakia in Helsinki.
