(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Kings try to push their winning streak to four straight games on Tuesday night when they continue their road trip in a meeting with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Kings have won the first two contests of their swing, including Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Florida Panthers. Ben Scrivens made his first start with Los Angeles a solid one, stopping 20 shots in his third career shutout.
Scrivens, acquired from Toronto along with forward Matt Frattin and a draft pick in late June for netminder Jonathan Bernier, had stopped all five shots faced in relief of Jonathan Quick on Oct. 4 on his Los Angeles debut. On Sunday, the 27-year-old pointed to his teammates as the reason for his shutout.
"You can't give enough credit to the guys in front. They did a great job," Scrivens said. "All I had to focus on was stopping the puck and seeing it well."
Dan Carcillo, Justin Williams and Jordan Nolan lit the lamp for the Kings, who wrap their road trip on Thursday in Nashville. Williams' goal was the 500th point of his career.
It is unknown if head coach Darryl Sutter will give Scrivens another start tonight or go back to No. 1 Jonathan Quick. Scrivens has split two games versus the Bolts in his career with a 3.24 goals against average, while Quick is 3-0-0 against them with a shutout and 0.55 GAA and .978 save percentage in four games.
The Kings are 3-0-1 in their last four trips to Tampa, notching a 3-1 victory in the most recent meeting between the clubs on Feb. 7, 2012. That road win pushed Los Angeles' overall win streak in this series to three in a row.
The Lightning had won three straight before failing to earn a point in Saturday's 5-4 setback to the Pittsburgh Penguins despite taking a one-goal lead into the third period.
The Pens got the game-winner with 18.6 seconds left on the power play following a tripping call to Richard Panik.
"I think that was an even hockey game," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "They got that last break at the end and capitalized on it."
Teddy Purcell, Alex Killorn, Valtteri Filppula and Steven Stamkos all scored for the Lightning, while Anders Lindback gave up all five goals on 26 shots.
Martin St. Louis had a pair of assists and has logged seven points over his last four games, leaving him one point shy of 900 in his Lightning career, while Purcell has three goals and six points in his last four contests.
This meeting with the Kings marks the third contest of a seven-game homestand for the Lightning.
Lindback is 1-2-0 with a 3.10 GAA and .885 save percentage in five career meetings with the Kings, while Ben Bishop has a 4.00 GAA and no record in two previous encounters.
