Sunderland have recalled winger Ahmed Elmohamady from his loan spell at Hull City on Wednesday.

Elmohamady joined Hull on a season-long loan at the end of August and scored once in 23 appearances.

The Egypt native helped Hull to second place in the English Championship, prompting Black Cats manager Martin O'Neill to recall his player.

"We would like to thank Elmo for his efforts and wish him all the best in the future," Hull City said in a statement.

Elmohamady returns to a Sunderland squad that is coming off an impressive 3-0 win over West Ham in league play over the weekend and sits six points clear of the relegation places.
