Sunderland signed midfielder Stephane Sessegnon to an extension on Thursday that will keep the Benin international with the English Premier League club for three more seasons.

Sessegnon, 28, joined Sunderland in January of last year from French side PSG, and has made 58 appearances for the Black Cats. He was named the club's player of the season in 2011-12. He has 11 goals for Sunderland.

Capped 69 times for his country, Sessegnon will finalize his new contract when his work permit is extended.
