PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are betting linebacker Jason Worilds' breakout 2013 was no fluke.
So is Worilds.
The former second round pick piled up a team-high eight sacks last season after finally cracking the starting lineup. The Steelers were so encouraged by his play they cut veteran LaMarr Woodley in March and gave Worilds a one-year deal worth nearly $10 million.
Pittsburgh hoped to sign Worilds to a long-term contract, but the sides remain apart heading into Sunday's opener against Cleveland. Worilds says he's not concerned about his future. He believes if he plays well and the Steelers win games, the contract will take care of itself.
Worilds' biggest concern is helping Pittsburgh rediscover its pass rush. The Steelers had just 34 sacks last season, tied for 25th in the league.
