St. Louis pitching coach Duncan taking leave of absence

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that pitching coach Dave Duncan is taking a leave of absence.

Duncan's wife, Jeanine, had major surgery on Sunday and will require additional tests and rehabilitation.

Duncan has been the pitching coach with the Cardinals since coming to the club with manager Tony La Russa in 1996 and has been the pitching coach under La Russa for the White Sox, Athletics and Cardinals since 1983.
