Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that the club has signed midfielder Scott Parker from West Ham.

The 30-year-old Parker handed in an official transfer request on Tuesday and said that he needed to be playing in the Premier League in order to maintain a place in the England squad.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with West Ham United for the permanent transfer of Scott Parker," said a statement on Tottenham's official website.

Parker, who has also played for Newcastle, Chelsea and Charlton, was relegated to the Championship with West Ham last season despite scoring five goals in 32 games and being named one of the best players of the season.

Tottenham sits on the bottom of the table having lost both of its games this season by a combined score of 8-1.
