Matias Fernandez scored twice and Ricky 1 over Uniao Leiria on Sunday.

Fernandez opened the scoring after 8 minutes and, after Djaniny tied the match for Uniao Leiria, put Sporting in front for good 5 minutes after halftime. Van Wolfswinkel earned a share of the league scoring lead with a late penalty.

Sporting moved to third place in the standings, just one point behind FC Porto and Benfica, who both settled for draws this weekend but remained unbeaten in 10 matches this season.

Porto was held to a 0-0 draw at Olhanense on Saturday, while Benfica wasted an opportunity to move into first as it needed a 73rd-minute goal from Rodrigo to escape with a 1-1 draw at fifth-place Braga on Sunday.

Edgar scored a hat trick as Guimaraes started the weekend's action with a 5-1 win Friday at Pacos Ferreira, while Baba Diawara scored twice, including the game-winner, as Maritimo downed Academica 3-2 to extend its unbeaten streak to eight in Saturday's other match.

Also Sunday, Christian Atsu scored in the 83rd as Rio Ave downed Nacional 2-1 for its second win of the season in a game that both clubs ended with 10 men, Moreira Artur scored the winner as Beira-Mar edged Feirense 2-1, and Setubal tied Gil Vicente 0-0.
