Gijon, Spain – Sporting Gijon fired coach Manuel Preciado on Tuesday, just days after the club lost for the sixth time in its last eight La Liga matches.
Preciado was with Gijon for 5 1/2 seasons and led the club to the top division in Spain in his second year in charge. Gijon finished 10th last season, but an embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday left the club 19th.
Assistant Inaki Tejada will take over coaching duties on an interim basis.
