Vermillion, SD – Joe Glenn is expected to be named the head football coach at his alma mater, the University of South Dakota, on Monday.
The university called a news conference for Monday afternoon. A report in the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls, N.D., said Glenn is the choice to replace the recently fired Ed Meierkort.
Glenn, 62, led the University of Montana to an NCAA Division I-AA national title (now FCS) in 2001, while compiling a 39-6 record in three seasons from 2000-02, and led Northern Colorado to Division II national titles in 1996 and '97 during a 98-35 run over 11 seasons from 1989-99.
Glenn won the 2000 Eddie Robinson Award as the national coach of the year in FCS.
Most recently, Glenn had a 30-41 record and one bowl appearance in six seasons (2003-08) at Wyoming before being fired after the 2008 season.
Glenn also coached four seasons at Doane from 1976-79. Overall, he has a 188-100-1 career record in 24 seasons.
He is a 1971 graduate of South Dakota.
South Dakota, which had a 6-5 record this season, will join the Missouri Valley Football Conference next year.
