Steve Spurrier is not sure when All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will be back in the lineup for No. 14 South Carolina.

The Gamecocks coach said Sunday the 6-foot-6, 274 pound Clowney had strained muscles around his ribs. He'll receive treatment and if healthy could return to action when South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) plays at Arkansas (3-3, 0-2) next weekend.

Clowney is considered the top prospect in April's NFL draft. He pulled himself out of the Gamecocks' 35-28 victory over Kentucky a short time before kickoff, telling Spurrier he was in too much pain to play. Spurrier said he didn't want anyone in pain to get on the field.

Asked about Clowney's commitment to the Gamecocks, Spurrier said, "You'll have to ask him that."
