The Detroit Tigers placed second baseman day disabled list with a sore left wrist.

Guillen is batting just .207 in 22 games this year with two home runs and 11 runs batted in. The 35-year-old's 2010 season was cut short by a knee injury that required surgery, which delayed his return to the Tigers until mid-July.

In a corresponding move, the Tigers selected the contract of second baseman Will Rhymes from Triple-A Toledo. Rhymes, who played in 19 games for Detroit earlier this season, hit .303 with 16 doubles and 23 RBI with the Mud Hens.
