Danny Ainge says the Boston Celtics' two new draftees have the passion and skill that help teams become good.

And the team's president of basketball operations hopes newcomers Marcus Smart and James Young can contribute to the Celtics on that long journey.

The team introduced them at a news conference Monday.

Last season's 25-57 record was the third worst in the history of a franchise that has won 17 NBA championships.

That enabled the Celtics to win a spot in the draft lottery. They took Oklahoma State guard Smart with the sixth pick and Kentucky swingman Young with the 17th of Thursday's draft. Smart is considered a tough defender who can play both guard spots, while Young was Kentucky's second leading scorer last season.
