Madrid, Spain – Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone received an eight-match suspension from the Spanish Football Federation on Monday after he was sent off during Atletico's Spanish Super Cup win over Real Madrid.
Simeone was handed a red card by referee David Fernandez Borbalan after he was protesting the amount of time it took for the referee to allow Atletico's Juanfran Torres back onto the field after he received medical treatment.
The Atletico boss reacted by tapping the fourth official, Antonio Santos Pargana, on the back of the head before leaving the field, and he later watched the rest of the match from the stands right next to the dugout, which is prohibited by the rules.
A statement from the Spanish Football Federation detailed the eight-match suspension with Simeone missing two games for his protest, four for hitting the fourth official, one for a sarcastic clap aimed at the referee and one game for the rest of the game from the stands near the dugout.
