Sydney, NS (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Silvers made par on the first playoff hole to defeat Matt Harmon and win the Breton Celtic Classic on Sunday.

Silvers fired a 6-under 66, while Harmon closed with a 69. The pair ended at 15-under-par 273. Their total of 273 bettered the tournament record by one stroke. Mackenzie Hughes posted 274 last year, the first year of the event.

Silvers and Harmon returned to the 18th for the playoff. Harmon's first tee shot was lost and his second ball landed in thick rough. Silvers tee ball was in the fairway, then he came up short with his second to the par-5.

Harmon chipped his fourth to the fairway and he found a bunker with his fifth. After Harmon finally reach the putting surface, Silvers chipped to 30 feet.

Silvers 2-putted for par and the win from there.

Daniel McCarthy, who shared the third-round lead, stumbled to a 1-over 73 at The Lakes Golf Club. He shared third place with Seann Harlingten (70) and Beon Yeong Lee (65) at minus-13.

Michael Gligic, who shared the third-round lead with McCarthy, faltered to a 2-over 74. He was joined in sixth place a 12-under 276 by Chris Williams (70).

Russell Surber (68), Adam Long (65) and John Catlin (65) were one stroke back at minus-11. Hughes closed with a 69 to share 15th at 8-under 280.

Silvers opened with a birdie at the first, but followed with five straight pars. He ran off three birdies in a 4-hole span from the seventh to soar to 13-under.

After a pair of pars, Silvers birdied the 13th and 14th. He parred the final four holes to end at 15-under. Silvers then waited to see what Harmon would do.

Harmon had a steady front nine with eight pars and a birdie on the sixth. He moved to minus-14 with a birdie on the 11th. After five straight pars. Harmon birdied the 17th to gain a piece of the lead. However, he could only par the par-5 18th to force the playoff.

NOTES: Silvers earned $27,000 for the win and he soared to 10th in the Order of Merit standings ... Harmon moved to third on that list ... The tour returns to Ontario next week for the Tour Championship of Canada, where Max Gilbert won one by last year.
