Renton, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman will require elbow surgery.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Monday that Sherman will undergo Tommy John surgery, a procedure popular for baseball pitchers due to the strain on the elbow ligament.
Sherman is expected to be ready for next season.
He finished the regular season with 57 tackles and four interceptions. Over four professional seasons with the Seahawks, Sherman has 24 picks in 64 regular-season games.
Additionally, Carroll said Monday that defensive back Jeremy Lane suffered a broken arm after landing awkwardly after a first-quarter interception of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. It's unclear how much time he will miss.
Lane had 13 tackles and no interceptions in seven regular-season games for the Seahawks.
