Key Biscayne, FL – Serena Williams had little trouble in her third-round match Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open.
The 10th-seeded Williams needed just 67 minutes to post a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Italy's Roberta Vinci. It has been smooth sailing thus far for the five- time Miami champ, as she returned from a seven-week absence on Thursday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over China's Zhang Shuai in the second round.
Other early winners on Saturday included Germany's Sabine Lisicki and Russia's Ekaterina Makarova. The 12th-seeded Lisicki notched a 6-4, 7-5 victory over China's Peng Shuai and Makarova dumped German Mona Barthel, 6-2, 6-4.
Saturday's third-round schedule also features matches for Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, Li Na and Kim Clijsters.
The second-seeded Sharapova will take on American Sloane Stephens and the former world No. 1 Wozniacki will meet Petra Cetkovska. The eighth-seeded Li will face Czech veteran Iveta Benesova and the unseeded Clijsters will square off against fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.
The winner of the $4.828 million tournament will collect $712,000.
