Josh Bedwell hit a late 3-pointer and two free throws to help preserve Samford's 69-67 win over Elon on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (11-10, 3-6 Southern Conference) led 66-58 after a 3 from Bedwell with 1:31 left to play, but two 3s from Chris Long pulled the Phoenix within two, 66-64, with 28 seconds on the clock.

Bedwell knocked down two free throws with 18 seconds to go, extending Samford's lead to 68-64. Long hit another 3 with 12 seconds left that narrowed the gap to 68-67, but Gaby Bermudez added a free throw and Jack Isenbarger missed a potential game-winning 3 with 1 second remaining.

Long finished with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range for the Phoenix (10-11, 4-6), who made 12 3-pointers as a team. Elon outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-26, but shot just 39.3 percent from the floor (24 of 61).

John Peterson led Samford with 16 points.
