The New York Yankees placed pitcher CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with left elbow soreness.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi originally made the announcement following Saturday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jays.

According to the New York Daily News, a source revealed that Sabathia felt soreness in his left elbow following his start on Wednesday in Detroit, a 12-8 Yankees win which pushed his record to 12-3. An MRI taken prior to the outing did not reveal any damage.

Girardi stated that Sabathia will have another MRI this coming Monday.

Sabathia, 32, was scheduled to start on Monday when the AL East leaders welcome Texas for the opener of a four-game series. Since coming off the disabled list last month following recovery from a groin strain, he went 3-0 with a 3.89 earned run average.
