New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and kicker Matt Bryant have been named NFC Players of the Week for their Week 1 efforts.
Ryan completed 31-of-43 passes for a franchise-record 448 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Atlanta's 37-34 overtime win against New Orleans. He posted a 128.8 passer rating in the game that saw him convert his 24th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime, the most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2008.
Additionally, his three touchdown passes give him 156 in his career, passing Steve Bartkowski (154) for the most in franchise history.
This is his fifth offensive player of the week award.
Bryant also had a big game against the Saints to take home special teams honors, scoring an NFC-best 13 points. He converted all three field-goal attempts and four PATs. He is only the second player in NFL history to force overtime as time expired with a 50+ yard (51 yards) field goal and win the game with a 50+ yard (52 yards) field goal (Greg Zuerlein, Dec. 2, 2012 vs. San Francisco).
In his 13th season, this is Bryant's seventh career player of the week award.
Levy had 10 tackles, including two for a loss, and an interception in the Lions' 35-14 win over the New York Giants to take home defensive player of the week honors.
Four of Levy's tackles were at or behind the line of scrimmage. In the third quarter, with the Lions leading 14-7, Levy intercepted a pass and returned it 13 yards to the New York 18-yard line. That interception set up a field goal which put Detroit up by 10.
In his sixth year from Wisconsin, this is Levy's first career player of the week award.
