Chicago, IL – Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was sitting out Wednesday's game against Washington with a sprained toe that head coach Tom Thibodeau was optimistic wouldn't keep the reigning MVP off the court for very long.
Rose was out of the lineup just one day after scoring a game-high 31 points in a win over Minnesota on Tuesday.
Thibodeau said his status was day-to-day.
"Those things happen. [His injury] happened in the first quarter," the coach said Wednesday. "It's a sprain and hopefully he will be back in a day."
Thibodeau said Rose has gotten treatment on his toe and that the injury "usually responds to treatment."
Rose, who was the youngest MVP in league history last year, is averaging 20.7 points, 8.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 11 games for the Bulls this season.
Richard Hamilton and C.J. Watson were also out for the Wizards game and Thibodeau was hopeful that free agent guard Mike James, signed from the NBA Development League's Erie Bayhawks, would arrive in time to play.
