Zaragoza, Spain – Cristiano Ronaldo picked up right where he opening 6-0 win over outclassed Real Zaragoza on Sunday at Estadio La Romareda in La Liga.
Ronaldo scored 40 times in La Liga last season to win Europe's Golden Shoe as the top scorer, and scored in the 24th, 71st and 87th minutes in a demolition of Zaragoza.
Marcelo, Xabi Alonso and Kaka also scored for Real, which easily leads the La Liga standings after the weekend games. Barcelona opens against Villarreal on Monday.
Ronaldo opened the scoring after 24 minutes when he ran onto a perfect through pass from Mesut Ozil and turned a first-time effort inside the right post.
Marcelo followed in the 28th with a stunning chip from inside the penalty area and Alonso added the third 19 minutes after half with a worm-killer from well outside the area.
Ronaldo scored his second when Angel Di Maria's pass found the Portuguese star inside the six-yard area and he swept the ball inside the net to stake Real to a four-goal lead.
Kaka opened his account in the 82nd when he opened space on the left, then hit a shot inside the right post from 14 yards. Ronaldo followed with his third of the match as he latched onto a Kaka rebound and slotted home from close range.
Sevilla 2, Malaga 1
Seville, Spain - ���lvaro Negredo scored a brace in the opening 26 minutes, and Sevilla held on to edge Malaga, 2-1, on Sunday at the Sanchez Pizjuan to start the La Liga season with a victory.
Negredo scored in the second minute, and scored a second before the half-hour mark when he struck in the 26th. Santi Cazorla scored in the 81st for Malaga, which failed to find the equalizer in the closing stages.
Atletico Madrid 0, Osasuna 0
Madrid, Spain - Atletico Madrid got taste of life with Sergio Aguero, who had a goal for Manchester City on Sunday, and Diego Forlan, who is rumored to be on his way out of Madrid, in a 0-0 draw against Osasuna on Sunday.
Madrid created a plethora of scoring opportunities, but put eight of 28 shots on goal as it failed to score at the Vicente Calderon in its La Liga opener.
Osasuna failed to create much offensively, but Asier Riesgo made eight saves to earn the shutout. Madrid's Thibaut Courtois had to make just two stops.
Athletic Bilbao 1, Rayo Vallecano 1
Bilbao, Spain - Jose Maria Movilla scored in the 62nd minute and promoted Rayo Vallecano marked its return to Spain's La Liga with a 1-1 tie against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday at San Mames.
Rayo returned to Spain's top division following an eight-year absence, but its return was in danger of ending with a loss after Ander Iturraspe scored in the 56th for Bilbao.
But Rayo tied the score when Movilla converted to the bottom-right corner, and the club escaped with a point.
Getafe 1, Levante 1
Getafe, Spain - Juanlu scored with 13 minutes remaining and Levante opened the La Liga season with a 1-1 draw on the road against Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.
Levante's goal, which equaled out Miku's 62nd-minute goal for Getafe, came off the lone shot on goal for the visitors. Getafe managed just two shots on goal.
Mallorca 1, Espanyol 0
Mallorca, Spain - Jonathan De Guzman scored in the second half as Mallorca opened the La Liga season with a 1-0 win over Espanyol on Sunday at Estadio Son Moix.
