Jackson, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - John Rollins carded a 4-under 68 in the third round Saturday and he moved two strokes clear of the field at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Rollins finished 54 holes at 14-under-par 202. He will go for his fourth PGA Tour title on Sunday.
"It's fun when putts are going in, you're making birdies and you're giving yourself opportunities, and that's what these last three days have been," Rollins said.
William McGirt fired a 6-under 66 and he matched the low round of the day. McGirt is alone in second place at minus-12. Jason Bohn (66) and former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover (67) are tied for third place at 11-under-par 205.
David Toms, who shared the second-round lead with Rollins, managed an even-par 72 at the Country Club of Jackson. He was joined in fifth place at minus-10 by Nick Taylor (70).
McGladrey Classic winner Robert Streb (70) stands alone in seventh at 9-under- par 207.
Rollins moved one ahead of Toms thanks to a short birdie putt at the opening hole. Rollins grabbed a 2-shot lead when he rolled in a 9-footer for birdie on No. 3.
After a pair of pars, Rollins missed the green with his approach at the sixth and that led to his only bogey of the day. He was still ahead by two at that point.
Rollins rolled in a 15-foot birdie effort at the eighth before running off five consecutive pars from the ninth. He 2-putted for birdie at the par-5 14th and that moved Rollins to minus-13.
The three-time PGA Tour winner dropped his approach shot within three feet at the 16th and he knocked that in for his final birdie. Rollins parred the last two holes to end two clear of McGirt.
"I didn't drive it as good today as I did the first two days, but I just kind of gutted it out and managed it around the golf course and kind of took what it gave me," said Rollins. "I managed to make some putts at times and some good par-savers. That was key."
McGirt knocked in a short birdie try at the third and followed with a 40-foot birdie putt on No. 4. He birdied the par-3 seventh, but missed the green with his approach shot at the eighth and that led to a bogey.
Around the turn, McGirt moved back to 9-under with a kick-in birdie at the par-5 11th. He also birdied the par-5 14th and made it two in a row with a 5- foot birdie putt at 15.
McGirt parred the following two holes before closing with an 11-foot birdie effort at the last to end two behind Rollins.
NOTES: Rollins has won one of the five previous times he had at least a piece of the 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour ... He did not have a top-10 finish in the 2013-14 season, and his last top 10 was at the 2013 St. Jude Classic ... McGirt is looking for his first tour win ... The second round was completed earlier on Saturday after being suspended due to darkness on Friday.
