The Colorado Rockies placed pitcher Edgmer Escalona on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after the reliever exited his most recent appearance with elbow soreness.

Escalona was removed from Sunday's 8-7 win over San Diego after surrendering back-to-back home runs and giving up three hits in just one-third of an inning. The right-hander was diagnosed with inflammation in his throwing elbow following an Monday MRI.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan has gone 1-2 with a 4.18 earned run average in 21 appearances for the Rockies this season.

Colorado recalled Josh Outman from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill Escalona's bullpen spot. The lefty went 2-0 with a 4.94 ERA over 19 games before being sent to the minors last week.
